Roadmap for Accelerating the Reduction of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality and Morbidity in Uganda

Health Systems

Maternal and Child Health
Description

Ugandas Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) had remained high for 15 years, with no significant decline between 1990 and 2000 (527 to 505 deaths per 100,000 live births). The Uganda Demographic and Health Survey of 2005/6 registered a modest decline to 435 deaths per 100,000 live births. This Maternal Mortality Ratio translates to about 6,000 women dying every year due to pregnancy-related causes. In addition, for every woman who dies, six survive with chronic and debilitating ill health
